Luscious Layers

Gelli plates are a quick and easy method of producing monotypes and in this class we will be focusing on creating layered prints.  We will begin with monochrome prints and keep the palette restrained in order to get to grips with mark making using a wide range of ‘found’ objects.

The next stage will involve creating some simple masks and stencils to introduce layers of pattern and contrast.  Along the way, you will learn important points about colour theory and design principles to help you create a pleasing composition.

Finally we will look at finishing touches to enhance your prints, such as adding metallic details, coloured pencil or pastel.

A Doodlicious Doodle Day

Doodling and colouring is good for you, it’s a mindful activity that can be calming and research has shown that it can be a valid part of art therapy helping people with both physical and mental health issues.

So let’s spend a day playing with pens, pencils and markers to create a series of fun doodles. We will start out with some simple doodles to get to know the different types of pens, then work through some structured doodling and some exercises to stretch your doodle muscles and expand your repetoire of pattern ideas.

You will also learn how to create some useful container shapes for your doodles such as a five petal flower and a couple of simple mandala outlines.

During the day we will doodle on different types of paper and look at ways to colour and shade our doodles with a variety of pencils, markers and watercolour.
