My first ever blog post

My first ever blog post

I started blogging in 2006, originally under the name Artylicious because at the time it seemed a bit strange to put my name out there.

As time went on I became quite well known in my industry and people needed to find me by my name, so switched my blog to glendawaterworth.com where I have blogged for many years.

So why the change to Quirky Paintbrush?  Well it’s all down to my decision to change career a couple of years ago and I now need glendawaterworth.com to be my professional fine art website.   It will be a gallery showcase for my artwork and a place to direct potential buyers, gallery owners, exhibition organisers, etc.  If I want people to take my art seriously, they don’t need to be distracted by videos of cats or my latest crocheted shawl.

And I feel like I’ve lost my voice in my attempt to make one website serve too many different purposes.  I haven’t blogged in ages and I miss it.  It always formed a big part of my creative output – a place to share things I’d made and connect with other people who have similar interests and tastes.

So why the name?  Well finding an available domain is getting harder these days, but when I was working through the idea of having a separate blog, I looked at all the different categories and commented to Adrian that it was a pretty quirky collection of stuff.  A few days later, I was talking to a friend  about crochet and compared my crochet hook to a paintbrush – “it’s just another form of expressive colour – like painting with yarn”.  And that’s when the idea of Quirky Paintbrush was born.

So my “paintbrush” may be a traditional one with bristles covered in paint or it may be a crochet hook, a syringe of dye, a Gelli plate, a strip of torn paper, or a piece of driftwood dipped in ink!  The name sits right with me and inspires me to find my voice again.
